Creake Abbey exhibition for Walsingham artist

Walsingham artist Sarah Caswell has chosen the Creake Abbey Café, three miles south of Burnham Market, for the exclusive launch of her new series of beautiful floral paintings.

The exhibition will be on display from Sunday, February 14, until early June and all works are for sale.

Sarah is a regular exhibitor at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in London. She is also a member of the Society of Botanical Artists, exhibiting annually in Westminster Hall, London and has won the People’s Choice Award twice since 2012.

Her work focuses on examining the effect of sunlight and shade on colour and form. It is highly three dimensional, throwing the subject out of the painting plane towards the viewer.

Her latest series, which will be launched at the Creake Abbey Café, extends her ongoing examination of England’s favourite flower, the rose.

In addition to these new paintings there will be a series of smaller works focusing on some of Sarah’s favourite subjects: snowdrops, magnolia, irises and other botanical forms.

The exhibition will also showcase a selection of large canvas prints and small framed prints and original sketches. All the paintings are acrylic and are on either unpainted natural linen or canvas, sometimes using gold leaf. Sarah also uses museum quality aluminium stretchers so that large pieces can remain unframed.

Sarah, who has a studio at Walsingham Barns, Hindringham Road, Great Walsingham, said: “I’m delighted to be returning to Creake Abbey with my latest series of bold ‘up-scale’ representations of our most beautiful flowers.

“My work explores the effect of sunlight on the colour and texture of petals with sensitivity and a sense of romance.”

The Sarah Caswell show is the latest in a series of exhibitions held at the Creake Abbey Café & Food Hall. The café will host a collection of Norfolk landscape paintings by Tracey Ross from June 9 to September 12.
