BIRDS IN FLIGHT: Photo exhibit benefits education

Nearly everyone is captivated by the beauty and grace of bird flight, but it’s particularly challenging for photographers to catch this beauty and grace with a camera.
“Capturing Birds In Flight,” an exhibit at the Blackfish Café through March, features photographs from Jack Doyle and Nagi Aboulenein, members of the Audubon Society of Lincoln City.
The show opens with a champagne reception and a chance to meet the photographers, 3-4:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, at the café, 2733 NW Highway 101, Lincoln City.
Over 25 framed photographs will be for sale. All of the proceeds will support ASLC’s Wild About Birds education and conservation programs for elementary students in Lincoln and Tillamook Counties.
Jack Doyle is best known in the area for his landscape photographs from Cascade Head, but his bird photographs have won top awards at the annual Great Backyard Bird Count photography contest, and he has taught digital photography at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology. He began photographing birds in 2005 as a way of building his bird identification skills when he became one of the founding board members of the Lincoln City Chapter of the Audubon Society.
Nagi Aboulenein is a computer engineer by profession with a long time interest in photography, especially wildlife and underwater. Since taking up birding about four years ago, he’s focused his photography efforts almost exclusively on birds. Photos in this exhibit were taken along the central coast of Oregon and in New Mexico.
Wild About Birds is one of the Audubon Society’s award-winning Audubon Adventures programs. The program supports a variety of language arts and science education goals through introducing students to bird diversity, building their bird observation skills, and increasing their awareness of birds in their environment. Lincoln City Audubon’s education coordinator, Caren Willoughby, is scheduling 2016 spring classroom programs now and hopes to offer the program to over 300 students in Lincoln and Tillamook Counties.
Audubon Society of Lincoln City is an all-volunteer Audubon Chapter for Lincoln and Tillamook Counties with the mission to “encourage residents and visitors to protect and enjoy the birds, wildlife and habitats found along the Central Oregon Coast.”
